The advice built for 21-year-old traditional applicants doesn’t map onto your situation, and most content online doesn’t seem to notice. Your timeline is different. Your financial picture is different. Your reasons for doing this are different, and they need to be, because you’re going to be asked to explain them more than anyone else in the applicant pool.

Address the career change directly, don’t dodge it
